Courageous Annie breaks record

11 Feb 2011

Friday night at Menangle saw smart three-year-old filly Courageous Annie driven by Queenslander Darryl Graham better the Australasian 3YO Mile record.
“I knew we were going quickly early, but not as quick as we were,” said Graham.
“We backed off a little in the second quarter and she was just cruising.”
Courageous Annie faced the breeze before surging to the front around the home bend to score the easiest of victories in 1:52.6.
Purchased from the PGG Wrightson New Zealand Ready to Run 2yo sales in 2009, Graham has had some issues with the daughter of Courage Under Fire.
“This is her first proper preparation as she’s had feet problems in the past,” he said.
“I think she can improve a little bit in the future so fingers crossed there might be some good times ahead.”
Courageous Annie will now be aimed at the New South Wales Oaks with a possible trip to Perth a month later for the WA Oaks.

Also that night another Ready To Run purchase Montana Falcon (Falcon Seelster – Penscroft) won the NSW Sapling Stakes for the same connections.
