About Us
PGG Wrightson Limited is New Zealand’s leading provider in the agricultural sector, employing over 2000 staff.
The Standardbred Division based in Christchurch is headed by Peter Lagan and Bruce Barlass who established the bloodstock business in 1987. Southlander Rachel Deegan administers the financial operations, Grant Inglis is the data and pedigree compiler and Kerry Shaw completes the team out on the road inspecting horses.
Having the company strength and infrastructure behind it and a position of unparalleled integrity and trust within the racing industry means the Division has a highly respected role as advisers, valuers, sellers and insurers of bloodstock.
The flagships of the Division are the Australasian Classic and New Zealand Premier Yearling Sales held in Auckland and Christchurch respectively each February and the Ready To Run 2yo auction held in Christchurch each October.
Billed as the “Sale of the Stars” their graduates include seven modern day New Zealand Cup winners, seventeen Harness Jewels winners and the most incredible, sixteen Northern Derby winners in a row.
Unity under the PGG Wrightson organisation has been a major benefit to the sales. Especially in producing a top quality catalogue, funding a very successful inward buyer scheme and the $1.3 million Sales Race Series now in its 21st year.
