PGG Wrightson Limited is New Zealand’s leading provider in the agricultural sector, employing over 1800 staff.
The Standardbred Division based in Christchurch is headed by Peter Lagan and Bruce Barlass who established the bloodstock business in 1987. Southlander Rachel Deegan administers the financial operations, Grant Inglis is the data and pedigree compiler and Cam Bray completes the team out on the road inspecting horses.
Having the company strength and infrastructure behind it and a position of unparalleled integrity and trust within the racing industry means the Division has a highly respected role as advisers, valuers, sellers and insurers of bloodstock.
The flagships of the Division are the Australasian Classic and New Zealand Premier Yearling Sales held in Auckland and Christchurch respectively each February. Billed as the “Sale of the Stars” their graduates include eight modern day New Zealand Cup winners, thirty nine Harness Jewels winners and thirty five Australasian Breeders Crown winners.
Unity under the PGG Wrightson organisation has been a major benefit to the sales. Especially in producing a top quality catalogue, funding a very successful inward buyer scheme and the $1 million Sales Race Series now in its 27th year.
